LFCDS, located on a 30-acre campus about 30 miles north of Chicago, Illinois, is a co-educational, independent day school serving 400 students from age 2 through eighth grade. The School has a long tradition of producing thoughtful, confident, and successful students. Children are known, loved, and challenged at LFCDS, and a state-of-the-art facility provides a remarkable setting for inspired teaching, academic rigor, and attention to individual needs.

Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) seeks a talented and dedicated full-time Maintenance Technician. The LFCDS Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in supporting a safe, clean, and fully operational campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for day-to-day general building maintenance, responding to work orders, supporting school events, assisting with campus safety procedures, and ensuring that all school facilities, systems, and equipment function at a high standard.

The technician works collaboratively with the Facilities Department and reports to the Director of Facilities.

Key Responsibilities General Facilities Maintenance
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Perform minor repairs and tasks within the scope of general building maintenance (e.g., painting, carpentry, HVAC filter changes, fixture replacements, hanging of classroom/employee items, basic plumbing, and electrical tasks).
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, mechanical equipment, classroos, and common areas; report findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities, including equipment checks, small engine care, and seasonal building preparations.
  • Document and complete work orders in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring communication with Facilities leadership on progress and updates.
Event & Program Support
  • Set up and break down spaces for lectures, assemblies, meetings, athletics, and special school events.
  • Assist faculty and staff with furniture, equipment, and classroom needs as required.
  • Ensure event spaces are safe, clean, and prepared according to school standards.
Safety, Security & Compliance
  • Participate in emergency response procedures, including fire alarms, severe weather, evacuation, and lockdown protocols.
  • Support campus safety efforts through routine monitoring of doors, lighting, building conditions, and hazard mitigation.
  • Recognize and report safety concerns related to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, equipment, or building infrastructure issues.
  • Follow established Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and OSHA safety practices when working on equipment.
Grounds & Seasonal Work
  • Assist with seasonal outdoor responsibilities, including snow removal, salting, leaf cleanup, minor landscape support, and storm response.
  • Operate basic maintenance tools, small vehicles, and equipment required for grounds and facility upkeep.
Collaboration & Customer Service
  • Respond promptly and professionally to faculty, staff, and student requests.
  • Communicate clearly with team members to support daily assignments and larger project needs.
  • Uphold school values and represent the Facilities Department with professionalism and courtesy.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the operational needs of the school.
Professional and Personal Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • General building maintenance experience.
  • Basic computer skills (email, work order systems, digital communication tools).
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • HVAC, plumbing, or electrical experience.
  • Experience in a school environment or large campus setting.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures, facility inspections, or emergency response.
