Summary:
The Building and Grounds Technician I performs routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on agency buildings, grounds, vehicles, furniture, equipment, and mechanical systems for an agency that supports children, adolescents, and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The technician ensures all work is performed in accordance with OSHA safety regulations and the standards set forth by agency policy, licensing bodies, and accrediting agencies.
This role supports the safe, clean, and efficient operation of agency facilities while modeling professionalism and positive interactions with staff, residents, and program participants.
Work Schedule
Adelbrook is a 24/7 operating Agency. Schedules are flexible, may include early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekdays, weekends, holidays, mandated overtime, mandated holds, and on call responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist routine and preventive maintenance on buildings
• Monitor facilities weekly for repair and maintenance needs
• Respond to maintenance work orders and requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist with installation, maintenance, or replacement of fixtures, equipment, and hardware.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Maintain agency grounds.
• Assist leaf removal, snow/ice removal, sanding, salting, and walkway safety maintenance.
• Complete assigned work orders promptly and document repairs accurately.
• Operate groundskeeping tools and equipment.
• Assist basic servicing, upkeep, and inspections of agency vehicles, maintenance tools, and mechanical equipment.
• Maintain small engines and outdoor equipment as assigned.
• Transport supplies, materials, or equipment using agency vehicles as needed.
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and use of tools, chemicals, fuels, and maintenance supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in maintenance shops, garages, and storage areas.
• Follow OSHA, agency, and safety protocols.
• Provide guidance to part-time staff, seasonal workers, or program participants assigned to maintenance tasks.
• Interact professionally with residents and staff, modeling appropriate behavior and respect for confidentiality and safety.
• Communicate effectively with the Facilities Manager, leadership, and program teams regarding needs and priorities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours or emergency maintenance needs when assigned.
• Address urgent issues promptly to ensure safety and building continuity.
• Maintain all training requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance needs.
• Demonstrate competency in adhering to policies that protect the safety and well-being of individuals served, staff, and others.
• Drive agency vehicles to pickup parts, deliver supplies, or complete off-site assignments.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
SKILLS:
• Skilled in the safe operation of maintenance tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
• Strong time management and organizational skills to manage multiple work orders.
• Effective problem-solving and basic troubleshooting ability.
• Basic proficiency with hand tools, small equipment, and simple repairs
KNOWLEDGE:
• General knowledge of building systems and mechanical repairs
• OSHA safety regulations and proper use of maintenance tools and equipment.
• Landscaping, snow removal, and groundskeeping practices.
ABILITIES:
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, supervisors, and residents.
• Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations or behavioral
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance, groundskeeping, or related trade.
• Experience with basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, or small engine repair is a plus.
• Must be able to complete and maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid).
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required. May be required to drive company vehicles.
