Fleet Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor reports to a Maintenance Manager and supervises a technician team responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet, including trucks (diesel and alternate fuel), containers, and other heavy-duty equipment at a post‑collection facility. The supervisor plans and schedules repair work to ensure safe, timely operations that reduce lost productivity while maintaining compliance with company safety, federal and state regulations.
PrincipalResponsibilities
- Direct A, B, and C level technicians to perform repair and maintenance work safely, efficiently, and timely.
- Monitor operational performance and efficiency, redirect activities as needed.
- Report performance to management and recommend process improvements.
- Conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks, and coaching/counseling sessions.
- Participate in hiring/termination decisions with HR and management.
- Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and make merit increase, promotion, and job change recommendations.
- Perform inspections of outside repairs and quality‑control inspections, track issues, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory procedures.
- Oversee repair diagnostics for complex matters and road‑test vehicles when necessary.
- Manage maintenance shop inventory control, equipment levels, and purchase within budget.
- Review and approve expenses within approval limits; refer larger expenses to the manager.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Handle administrative duties: payroll, employee records, maintenance records, Dossier Maintenance Software, budget preparation, and goal setting.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications: T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension & Steering, T6 Electrical/Electronic, T7 HVAC Systems, ASE T2 Diesel Engine, ASE Master Certified.
- 3 years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment.
- 1 year of supervisory experience in a lead technician or similar management role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA, and federal/state regulations.
Second Shift: 3:00PM–Monday to Friday.
