Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Utility Technician, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Responsibilities
Perform a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance, operation, and repair of the city’s wastewater facilities and lift stations.
Duties include snow removal for the city during the winter months and other tasks as assigned within the public works department.
Wastewater tasks may include plant checks, troubleshooting/repair of equipment, record keeping, sampling, laboratory analysis, preparing regulatory reports, handling chemicals and ordering equipment and supplies.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by additional public works training or experience in maintenance, operations, and repair of streets, water and wastewater facilities, public water distribution systems, and sewer collection systems.
- Familiarity with personal computers (PCs) and SCADA systems (PC and iPad applications) strongly desired.
- Ability to enter data into spreadsheets, use email, and view GIS maps.
- Strong multitasking, good judgment, problem solving, organizational and time-management skills, and attention to detail.
- Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B with Full Air Brakes, or ability to obtain within six months.
- Class #4 IEPA Wastewater Operators Certification, or ability to obtain within 16 months.
Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Weekend and/or night hours required for scheduled and emergency work, including snow/ice control removal activities. On-call duties after hours may be required.
Salary & BenefitsThe starting hourly rate ranges from $27.91 to $29.61 depending on qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package: health, dental and life insurance effective first day, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension, 10 paid holidays, and vacation and sick hours earned monthly. Full salary range for Maintenance Worker I is $27.91 to $34.32 per hour.
