Essential Functions
  • General maintenance of buildings, grounds, athletic fields, equipment and other facilities in the assigned department/division.
  • Perform custodial maintenance including sweeping, mopping, cleaning mirrors, disinfecting toilets/sinks, vacuuming floors, and maintaining light fixtures, scoreboards, and equipment.
  • Paint interior and exterior walls, equipment, and other surfaces; repair light fixtures and replace bulbs.
  • Patch asphalt areas, clean drain pipes, remove litter and debris, empty trash containers, and transport trash to designated receptacles.
  • Monitor inventory levels of equipment, tools, chemicals and supplies; initiate requests for new or replacement materials; pick up supplies as needed.
  • Operate machinery and tools such as utility truck, tractor, bobcat, aerator, sod cutter, mower, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, paint machine, pressure washer, tile saw, chain saw, circular saw, grinder, drill, welder, shovel, rake, post hole digger, and other janitorial, gardening, mechanic and hand tools.
  • Perform general/preventive maintenance tasks to keep vehicles, equipment and tools operable; inspect, refuel, check fluid levels, grease, replace parts, sharpen blades, clean equipment, and maintain shop/work areas.
  • Transport, lift and unload equipment and materials used in projects.
  • Follow safety procedures and use safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and others.
  • Prepare and complete various forms, reports, logs, maintenance records, inspection forms and other documents.
  • Receive and process forms, reports, correspondence, logs, maintenance records, event schedules, field and electrical diagrams, material safety data sheets, operational manuals, policies, procedures and reference materials.
  • Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, community service workers, inmate workers, vendors, the public, outside agencies and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status, exchange information or resolve problems.
Additional Duties (Parks & Recreation Department)
  • Maintain park grounds, athletic fields, recreational facilities and related facilities.
  • Mow, edge, drag and groom baseball/softball, football/soccer fields.
  • Measure, mark, lay out and paint playing fields, paint foul lines and poles, repair pitching rubbers, home plates and bases.
  • Maintain infield areas, apply infield conditioner, top‑dress turf, inspect and rake sand around playgrounds, aerate, seed, fertilize and water grounds; install sod and apply herbicides and pesticides.
  • Dispose of litter and debris; repair nets of tennis and basketball courts; install or repair fences.
  • Assemble and clean bleachers, benches, picnic tables, erect or paint trash cans, install, replace and repair sprinkler systems and heads, lay rock and concrete blocks around landscaped areas.
  • Cut and burn tree limbs and debris; dig holes, trenches, shovel and spread materials.
  • Monitor and inspect park facilities to identify problems requiring attention, such as vandalism, inoperative lighting or broken sprinkler heads; report issues to supervisor.
  • Assist with setup of summer camps, Safety Town or other parks/recreational activities.
Additional Functions

Safety‑sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as per Forsyth County policies.

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Qualifications
  • Must have at least 2 months of previous experience and/or training involving grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, equipment operation or manual labor.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
