Overview
The Peplink Tier 1 Field Technician (Dallas-based) serves as the frontline hands‑on expert for on‑site installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Peplink equipment, while providing Tier 1 phone/remote support when not traveling. This role blends technical networking skills with physical fieldwork in varied environments (offices, vehicles, mobile units, rooftops, etc.). Expect 50–70% regional travel within Texas (with occasional national trips), flexible remote support from your Dallas home base, and the use of a company‑provided truck for all field duties.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Tier 1 phone and remote support (when not in the field): troubleshoot connectivity issues, basic configurations, firmware updates, InControl platform usage, and break/fix scenarios for Peplink customers nationwide. Resolve 80–90% of issues at first contact; document tickets thoroughly and elevate complex cases.
- Perform on‑site installations and deployments of Peplink hardware (e.g., Balance routers, MAX mobile routers, Pepwave access points) at client sites, including site surveys, mounting, integration, failover/performance testing, and end‑user training/handover.
- Run and terminate low‑voltage cabling (Ethernet, coaxial, etc.), handle basic electrical connections (power supplies, grounding), and deliver clean, code‑compliant cable management.
- Diagnose and resolve on‑site issues, optimize signals, and perform upgrades in dynamic conditions.
- Safely climb ladders (up to 20–30 ft), work at heights, crawl in tight/confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces, vehicle interiors), and lift/carry heavy equipment/tools (up to 50–75 lbs).
- Maintain accurate records: site photos, network diagrams, configuration backups, installation reports, and customer feedback.
- Collaborate with the Gainesville HQ support team and share field insights to refine deployment processes and product feedback.
- Adhere to all safety protocols (PPE usage, risk assessments, OSHA guidelines) and operate the company‑provided truck responsibly (clean driving record required).
- Travel regionally in Texas (50–70% time on the road, occasional overnights/national travel) with flexible scheduling and compensatory time off.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate’s degree in IT, networking, electronics, or related field preferred. - 1–3+ years of hands‑on experience in field installation, low‑voltage cabling, networking support, or technical troubleshooting (telecom, IT deployment, AV/low‑voltage, wireless, or similar industries).
- Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, VLANs, WAN/LAN, Wi‑Fi basics, failover concepts).
- Physically able and comfortable with climbing ladders/heights, crawling in confined spaces, lifting 50–75 lbs, and working outdoors/in varied weather conditions.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills — professional, patient, and clear when explaining technical concepts to non‑technical users.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record (required for company truck operation).
- Willingness to travel regionally (Texas‑focused) and occasionally overnight/nationally with flexible hours.
- Proficiency with basic tools (multimeters, cable testers, crimpers) and eagerness to learn Peplink platforms (InControl, web admin interface).
- Experience with Peplink/Pepwave products (Balance, MAX, etc.) or SD‑WAN/cellular/mobility networking.
- Certifications:
CompTIA Network+, A+, Cisco CCNA, Peplink PCA/PCE (training and certification support provided), OSHA 10/30, or low‑voltage experience. - Background in vehicular, maritime, mobile healthcare, retail, or failover deployments.
- Prior field technician experience in telecom, managed services, or wireless industries.
- Company‑provided truck for all field travel and job duties (fuel/maintenance covered).
