Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Job Overview
Under the direction of the Sr Facility Manager, this role works as a team member in an Operations & Maintenance organization that provides a variety of O&M services within a 24/7/365 environment. The employee will preserve the reliability of critical load, support building systems in other facilities as assigned, and respond to alarms and incidents with priority to maintain system integrity.
Key Responsibilities- Effectively complete assigned tasks in the Operations & Maintenance program and any non‑DC space(s) assigned.
- Understand and enforce the Owner’s building operations rules and the DC Manager’s policies.
- Use and train others to use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track work, labor hours, preventive maintenance work orders, and reactive tickets.
- Apply SOPS/MOPS/EOPs/MMRs as appropriate for site operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to accomplish maintenance and project work safely and efficiently.
- Respond to building system alarms, prioritizing preservation of critical load, minimizing equipment or system damage, and participating in root‑cause analysis.
- Implement equipment and system operational modifications, such as critical switching, lockout/tagout, and safe working area set‑ups for specialty subcontractors.
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and comply with Company, government, and client policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Remain available 24/7/365 for emergency corrective maintenance or action activities and comply with all EHS requirements.
- Desire to provide the highest levels of customer service with a cheerful and enthusiastic attitude.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn quickly and develop new product skills independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting workloads in a fast‑paced environment.
- Knowledge of reflectance, length, and decibel loss within test equipment; knowledge of Visio and AutoCAD a plus.
- Willingness to adjust hours as required, including onsite extended hours during emergencies.
- Journeyman level skills in electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R disciplines (obtainable through an associate’s degree, a technical training program, or experience in a technical facility maintenance position).
- 5+ years working in Tier2, Tier3, or Tier4 Data Center(s) or in operations & maintenance / building engineering roles.
- Familiarity with Work Order Control procedures and a CMMS.
- Experience with subcontractor and vendor contract management.
- Experience managing key performance indicators; capacity planning and reporting.
- Proficiency with hand tools, test equipment, and maintenance shop practices at the Journeyman level for Electrical and Mechanical Equipment and systems.
