Salary Range: $18.00 - $19.00 Hourly

The Field Technician is responsible for all aspects of railcar cleaning and the inspection, care, and maintenance of equipment used in the cleaning process. The role requires safe confined space entries while wearing movement and sight restricting personal protective equipment with limited lighting to clean the interior of tank and hopper cars in compliance with Tactical Cleaning policies and procedures. The Field Technician must inform the Shop Manager of any issues related to their assigned duties.

• Inspect and clean railcar interiors for compliance with customer, FRA, AAR and Tactical Cleaning requirements.
• Complete cleaning checklists as required.
• Maintain a top priority of a clean and safe work environment, ensuring all company guidelines and safety rules are followed, including Tactical Cleaning’s Health and Safety Program.
• Maintain clear communication with co‑workers and management.
• Use water or abrasive/fine material (sand) to clean the interior of rail or tank cars.
• Dispose of materials properly according to EPA requirements.
• Maintain proper maintenance and cleaning of all equipment including sprayers, nozzles, hoses, catch basins, etc.
• Ensure that permits, pictures, QA/QC and all tank car cleaning documentation is completed and distributed to all necessary parties.
• Assist with the setup, troubleshooting, and running of the diesel cleaning system.
• Adhere to production schedules and maintain regular attendance as required by a predetermined work schedule.
• Assist management with supplying information for daily reports and all necessary operational documents in an accurate and timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to climb ladders, tolerate confined spaces and heights, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs overhead on a consistent basis, working safely around heavy equipment and on top of, under and inside railcars, and railroad tracks.
• Ability and willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
• Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as respirators, safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, and a variety of protective suits.
• Ability to operate a computer to perform daily work activities, with an understanding of basic computer software (MS Word, MS Excel).
• Ability and willingness to be trained on Hazwoper courses, Confined Spacing, First‑Aid, Hazardous Materials, and other required safety and/or OSHA training.
• Knowledge of equipment and tools required to perform safe entry for cleaning (familiarity with sandblasting / power washing equipment).
• Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
• Have vision correctable to 20/20 for inspection activities.
• Ability to pass a company required physical examination and drug and alcohol screen.
• Ability to pass a company required respiratory wellness test and respirator fit test.
• Availability to work overtime hours.
• Availability to travel approximately 50%‑75% of the time, including overnight stays, from either mobile or other fixed job sites.

This position has no direct oversight.

A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred. A minimum of 1 year of proven successful experience in freight car/tank car cleaning is preferred; a combination of education and experience is required. Experience working with heavy construction, cleaning, and/or repair equipment will be considered.
