Under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty cleaning and maintaining city facilities, and moving furnishings and equipment; and performs related work as required.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the written examination on February 27, 2026. Applicants who achieve a score of 70% or higher on the written examination will be invited to interview, with interviews scheduled for March 3, or March 4, 2026.

Cleans building interiors; sweeps, vacuums, mops and disinfects floors, scrubs walls and bathroom fixtures, dusts furniture, empties trash, washes windows, cleans boilers and air conditioners, installs and removes equipment.
Maintains grounds; picks up trash, mows grass, trims hedges; plants, waters, weeds, and removes flowers and trees; sweeps and shovels sidewalks.
Monitors the operation of boilers, air conditioners or other appliances and reports malfunctions; uses hand or power tools to repair and maintain buildings, fixtures and equipment.
Moves furniture, air conditioners, files, equipment, and supplies as required; may set up conference rooms for meetings.
QualificationsOne year of custodial or building maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout duration of employment.
Must pass a physical examination and background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport.
Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two (2) years of hire and maintain residency throughout the duration of employment.

- Routine painting, plumbing and carpentry and other skills and methods as applied to building maintenance and repair.
- Understanding oral and written instructions.
- Performing routine custodial duties.
- Using hand tools.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with building tenants.
- Inventory control and storage of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Performing moderately heavy manual tasks.
