New Hire:
Entry Level Rate $20.24/hr (2025-26 rate). Current employees with seniority in the bargaining unit, please refer to the Salary Schedule established by the bargaining unit. After 6 months $22.35/hr (2026-27 rate).

Duties & Responsibilities

Starter/Closer/Utility Lead
Trash removal
Vacuum all areas—hard and soft surfaces
Dust horizontal surfaces, clocks, overhead screens, blinds
Assist with deep cleaning during break periods: stripping, scrubbing, recoating, carpet extraction, cleaning restrooms, glass, and furniture
Remove snow
Minor grounds keeping
Lawn mowing
Assist with delivery of supplies
Properly maintain equipment
Operate all energy-consuming devices efficiently, striving to attain maximum energy conservation
Monitor HVAC systems, report problems to maintenance via work order system
Make minor repairs to equipment, building furniture, hardware, windows, etc.
Report major repair problems to head custodian and maintenance via work order system
Responsible for closing and securing building
Work with and direct within established routine custodians on 2nd shift and during break periods as assigned by head custodian
Monitor performance of custodians during their assigned shift; discuss performance issues with head custodian or supervisor
May fill in for the head custodian as necessary
Must treat fellow workers with respect and facilitate a non-hostile work environment
Perform other duties as assigned
May work night or day shift

Physical Requirements of Position

Have physical ability to lift and carry 56 lbs.
Have the physical ability to climb an eight-foot ladder and perform custodial tasks
In addition to these specific qualifications this person must meet all the general qualifications as listed in the lead custodian job description of the Davenport Community School District as posted on the district website.

Special Qualification Desired

Must have high degree or GED
Must be able to direct others to the successful completion of assigned tasks
Have a thorough knowledge of all cleaning procedures, chemicals & equipment
Ability to learn how to operate a computer, use email, open attachments and complete electronic work orders.
