Position: Dish/Utility Worker (FOOD SVC WORKER PD)

Job Summary

Under supervision, perform a full range of kitchen, customer areas, and bathrooms cleaning tasks. Wash pots, dishes and equipment by hand and with industrial dishwashers. Use hand tools to sweep, mop, clean bathrooms, dust, polish silverware, and vacuum. May work individually or as part of a group. Perform a full range of cleaning and organizing tasks in kitchen, customer areas, bathrooms, interior and exterior docks areas and other areas.

Wash pots, pans, food preparation bowls and dishes. Support work stations and production kitchen areas with waste and cardboard sorting and removal. Ensure all hand washing and bathroom areas are fully stocked, clean and ready to use. Operate various unit equipment and machinery, dishes and glassware, utensils and tools with care. Utilize hand tools, sweep, mop, dust, polish silverware, vacuum, sort, organize and wash equipment and dishes or areas of the facility.

Work with various pieces of industrial level dishwashers and cleaning equipment following operating guidelines provided by manufacturer. Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks to all equipment and areas assigned, following deep cleaning schedules and processes established by the SOP provided for each area of responsibility. Maintain general security of the Unit food, equipment and supplies. Sweep, mop and spot mop stains/spillage from floors.

Strip/wax floors. Remove cobwebs from buildings. Dust, clean, and polish equipment, furniture, walls, light fixtures, window blinds, window sills, vent grills and elevators. Clean and disinfect restrooms, waste receptacles, drinking fountains, partitions and doors. Fill soap and paper dispensers. Empty and clean trash and recycling receptacles. Operate power equipment safely, including vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, floor buffers, floor scrubbers, polishing machines, carpet extractors, shampoo machines, etc.

Organize, clean and maintain adequate supply closets.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training
  • Customer service experience in a retail and/or food service setting to cooperate with public and other staff members and convey a helpful, positive attitude.
  • Experience washing pots/pans/dishes in a service-oriented setting.
  • Experience cleaning and maintaining sanitation and safety of a retail or food service environment.
  • Skills to communicate in English, both orally and in written form to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors and guests.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures for lifting, handling broken glass and skill to use wet floor signs when mopping floors or cleaning up spills.
  • Skill to verify proper concentration of sterilized solution using test strips.

  • Skill to guide a wide range of tasks to student assistants and kitchen support staff.
  • Skills to differentiate products  composition, biodegradability, nutrition, etc.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with and provide excellent customer service to a diverse campus community; communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Problem solving skills to troubleshoot problems as they arise, find alternate solutions, and implement solutions in a professional and efficient manner.
