Position Overview
The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Maintenance Worker for the Ocean Center located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The role involves semi-skilled manual labor in construction and maintenance tasks across a variety of settings.
Responsibilities- Operate commercial-grade power washers, ATVs, floor scrubbers, sweepers, forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other equipment as needed.
- Read and utilize event work orders and floor plans to set up and take down events.
- Perform venue set up for meetings, classroom training, theater, presentations, or banquets, including installation of event-specific equipment such as basketball courts and goals, dance floors, staging, risers, etc.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs.
- May serve as a lead worker on a small work crew.
- Attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Perform entry-level Maintenance Worker duties when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to Federal, State, County, and local ordinances.
- Respond to emergency situations.
- May be assigned to other locations based upon operational needs.
High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker with Volusia County, or two (2) years of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work. A comparable amount of education and training may be substituted for the required experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
All knowledge, skills, and abilities of lower-level Maintenance Workers.
Skills and Abilities(Depending on Assignment)
- Knowledge of equipment used in maintenance and grounds keeping.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of equipment.
- Ability to fill out daily work sheets and other required forms.
- Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts (elevated platforms), ride‑on floor maintenance equipment.
- Ability to interact effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- All knowledge, skills, and abilities of lower-level Maintenance Workers.
- Knowledge of equipment used in maintenance and grounds keeping.
Able to see, talk, and hear. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and machines. Peripheral vision. Able to pull, push, lift, and carry 75 pounds; grasp, handle, climb, balance, reach overhead, bend, and stoop. Able to traverse uneven, wet, or broken terrain.
Environmental DemandsGenerally outside work. Able to tolerate inclement weather, including but not limited to heat, humidity, wind, and cold. May require exposure to chemicals, dust, insects, noise, fumes, and confined areas.
Mental DemandsAble to read and comprehend safety instructions, procedures, memos, and written directions. Able to write simple sentences relaying information. Able to perform basic math such as addition and subtraction.
