PurposeThe Substitute Custodian is primarily responsible for maintaining an attractive, sanitary, safe facility for students, staff, and the public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure to the school district.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- General knowledge of institutional and/or commercial cleaning techniques
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow direction and work independently

Fingerprinting and job‑related background check required. This position is not covered under any collective bargaining agreement and is not a full‑time, permanent employee of the District. Substitutes are used on an as‑needed, day‑to‑day basis in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities- Cleans assigned District facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, lunch rooms, corridors, carpets, windows, walls, bleachers, stages, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Prepares school district facilities for daily operations (e.g., opening gates and building access doors, disarming security systems, raising flags, placing crosswalk signs, etc.) to ensure facilities are operational and safe.
- Secures school district facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and related events.
- Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
- Completes employer‑required training to maintain current knowledge regarding job and District, state, and federal rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Completes special work assignments as assigned by the head custodian, the Principal (or designee), and/or custodial supervisory staff.
- Works cooperatively with administration, teaching staff, students, and other service departments.
- Maintains daily attendance and punctuality to meet unit goals.
- Adheres to all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, and applicable state and federal regulations.
The incumbent may work inside and outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat, and may be exposed to unpleasant sights, smells, dangerous or toxic substances. The employee must protect eyes, nose, and skin from irritation, and may be exposed to loud equipment. Physical tasks include regular standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, squatting, kneeling, climbing ladders, bending or twisting the neck and trunk, moving heavy objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally moving heavier items.
