Airport Laborer

Responsible for performing a variety of daily, cyclical and routine grounds and facility maintenance functions. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Clean areas of debris or litter. Operate trucks, mowing equipment, chain saws, hand power tools, and all other maintenance and mechanical equipment. Operate power tools in the performance of maintenance activities. Perform repair on equipment and buildings. Perform routine maintenance on buildings such as painting, sweeping, mopping, etc. Plow snow on the landside and airside of the airport. Drive tractors, trucks, and other equipment.

Rake leaves, trim trees, and shovel sidewalks. Operate equipment in the repair of waterlines, sewer lines, and other maintenance areas. Assists others in the performance of construction and maintenance activities. Sharpens blades of mowers. Maintain and repair pavement on airport grounds. Loads, unloads and delivers equipment and supplies, as needed. Assist in picking up trash around airport property. Escort visitors of the airport along with construction workers.

Complete vehicle & equipment inspections on a daily basis as assigned to ensure the equipment remains operational. Write up any items that require repair or further attention. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment i.e. Check and add fluids, grease fittings, sharpen and change blades, etc. Perform general maintenance as appropriate on site to ensure safe operation of equipment. i.e. change trimmer line spool, etc.

Keep all tools & equipment clean, properly stored & in working order. Keep workplace in a clean & organized condition. Wash & detail vehicles & equipment regularly to ensure positive appearance & to extend life of equipment.

Learn & use proper PPE for job task. Follow instructions of label & MSDS. Attend training sessions. Report injuries & incidents. Report any safety hazards & needed repairs. Remain FAA safety compliant.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

High school education; 1-year related experience and/or training. Ability to read and comprehend English, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense of understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations. Commercial Driver's License Class B or be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required climb or balance, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high places; fumes or airborne particles;

toxic or caustic chemicals; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
