Facilities Manager

Tabernacle Baptist Church in Decatur, Illinois, is seeking a full-time Facilities Manager.

Starting Salary will be $55,000-$65,000 based on previous experience.

The Facilities Manager serves as a vital steward of the church's physical resources, ensuring that buildings and grounds provide a welcoming, safe, and functional environment for worship, ministry, and community outreach. This role combines practical facility management with a heart for supporting the church's mission through excellent stewardship of physical assets.

Facility Operations & Maintenance

• Oversee comprehensive maintenance of all church buildings, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure optimal facility performance
• Monitor and arrange for necessary repairs, coordinating with contractors and service providers
• Maintain facility maintenance logs and equipment records
• Ensure compliance with all safety codes, building regulations, and insurance requirements Campus Management
• Supervise the overall appearance and functionality of church grounds and outdoor spaces
• Coordinate landscaping, snow removal, and seasonal maintenance activities
• Manage facility security systems and access protocols
• Oversee setup and breakdown for special events, services, and ministry activities Staff Leadership & Coordination
• Lead and direct custodial and maintenance staff members
  - Recruit, train, and schedule facility volunteers
• Collaborate with ministry leaders to understand facility needs and priorities
• Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers Strategic Planning & Vision
• Partner with church leadership and Property and Space Committee to develop long-term facility usage strategies
• Contribute to planning for facility improvements and capital projects
• Assess space utilization and recommend optimizations for ministry effectiveness
• Support outreach initiatives by ensuring facilities are prepared for community events Resource Management
• Manage facility supplies, equipment inventory, and vendor relationships
• Prepare and monitor facility-related budgets, i.e. utilities, building repair and maintenance
• Research and recommend cost-effective solutions for facility improvements
• Oversee energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability practices
• Maintain facility records, process invoices, track maintenance requests and manage space allocation

• Proven experience in facility management, building maintenance, or related field
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience with building systems, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols
• Strong negotiation, project management, problem-solving and communication skills Technical Competencies
• Proficiency in computer applications for scheduling, record-keeping, and communication
• Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and compliance requirements
• Ability to read blueprints, maintenance manuals, and technical documentation
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems Personal Qualities
