The County of Volusia is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Senior Maintenance Worker for the Parks, Recreation & Culture Division. This position is located at Chuck Lennon Park in DeLeon Springs, Florida. Responsibilities include performing semi‑skilled manual labor such as clearing brush from roadsides, lining ball fields, sweeping pathways, cleaning restrooms, removing trash and debris, and maintaining lawns and brushes by cutting, trimming, watering, and fertilizing.

Additionally, the position involves cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, pavilions, and park facilities.

Maintenance Worker Responsibilities
  • Operate chainsaws and brush cutters in ditch maintenance, right of way clearing, and grounds keeping; operate commercial mowers and landscape equipment.
  • Operate vehicle‑mounted and portable spray equipment.
  • Assist with application, storage, mixing and loading of herbicides and insecticides; spray surface water problems for control of mosquito larvae and weeds.
  • Assist with field maintenance and service work on equipment; assist in shop maintenance when equipment is in repair.
  • Operate equipment such as blowers, sweepers, commercial mowers, lawnmowers, edgers, pressure washers, etc.
  • Clear brush from roadside and ditches, sweep walks, remove refuse and paper from grounds, cut, trim, water and fertilize lawns and bushes.
  • Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans; move and aid in moving furniture, equipment and large bulky objects.
  • Maintain mosquito control ditches with hand tools including shovels and rakes.
  • Perform scheduled housekeeping duties throughout the facility and area grounds.
  • Perform minor repairs under close supervision such as changing lights and fixing toilets.
  • Wash and clean vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Keep restrooms and locker rooms supplied with necessary papers, soaps, and towels.
  • Clean and sanitize park restrooms and shower areas.
  • Picks up and delivers parts and supplies as directed.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Senior Maintenance Worker Responsibilities
  • Perform all work of a Park Maintenance Worker.
  • Operate commercial power mowers, chainsaws, circular saws, reciprocal saws, brush cutters, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other landscaping, park and roadside maintenance equipment.
  • May operate and maintain a Freon removal machine.
  • Operate various types of equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, tractors, skid steers, forklifts, dump trucks, etc.
  • May assist equipment operators in laying out work and maintaining machines.
  • Assist repair technicians and journeymen in duties; assist in performing field maintenance and service work on equipment.
  • Assist with application, storage, mixing and loading of herbicides and insecticides.
  • Assist trades and project workers in brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, roofing and other construction tasks.
  • May perform venue set up for meetings, classroom training, theater, presentations or banquets, and operate audio/visual and lighting systems.
  • Read and utilize event work orders and floor plans to set up and take down events.
  • May serve as a lead worker on a small work crew.
  • Attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • May be assigned to other locations based upon operational need.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
Compensation

Maintenance Worker:
Starting $16.15/hour

High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work.

Senior Maintenance Worker:
Starting $17.22/hour

High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker or two (2) years of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work.
