Summary:
This is the senior managerial role in the K-12 educational content sector. The Managing Editor will lead a team responsible for ideation, planning, developing and deploying curriculum-oriented discipline-specific content. The role will broadly involve list-planning, preparing a blueprint for any series of content, maintaining strict timelines, identifying and working with potential authors, leading and mentoring a team of editors, managing copyrights, permissions, creative services, internal and external stakeholders, quality assurance and control and adherence to a budget in the process of execution.

The individual’s effort will potentially result in the development of a highly motivated and skilled team of editors and generation of superior quality content, in keeping with curriculum standards and teaching-learning demands.
Responsibilities:
- To lead in conjunction with the management, the development of the product strategies and a roadmap for the discipline in terms of content standards, pedagogical expectations and learning outcomes
- To identify and commission authors and work closely with them to carry out the vision for a particular series of content, keeping the focus on the learner
- To own documents such as competition analysis and vertical-horizontal plan
- To lead and mentor a team of editors in the process of planning, commissioning, development and deployment of content
- To define and ensure the smooth running of editorial processes, guidelines and standards
- To review acquired content and ensure compliance to local and global editorial standards and curriculum frameworks
- To project, track and control expenses in line with pre-approved budgets
- To give regular feedback on the quality of edited content to the team and help to improve their skill
- To coordinate with and oversee tasks such as seeking copyright permissions, planning and commissioning illustrations, sourcing photographs and managing external vendors
- To work closely with the sales/marketing teams to develop receive feedback on products and get insights on their improvement
- To manage and constantly improve relationships with customers, authors and business partners
- To manage deadlines and schedules without compromising on quality
- To manage the publication process efficiently and cost-effectively
- To draw up a learning calendar for each member of the team to ensure their skill enhancement
- To liaise effectively with other departments within the company, HR, Finance, Operations to ensure smooth running of the publishing program
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficient in using Microsoft word, Excel and PDF editor
- Superior editorial and content management skills
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills
- Minute attention to detail
- Extensive understanding of pedagogy
- Understanding of quality management principles
- Experience in working with global, regional and local teams and stakeholders
- Past experience of managing content; drawing plans as per budgets, managing schedules and quality parameters
- A proactive and flexible approach to work with a strong work ethic
- Ability to prioritize, delegate and manage work to adhere to critical project timelines and market demands
- Ability to inspire the team towards leveraging each member’s potential in organization-building
