About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, and performance of all golf course maintenance equipment. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program that ensures equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong mechanical expertise, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting golf course operations through proactive equipment management. This position works closely with the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendent, and maintenance team to ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards while maximizing equipment lifespan and controlling repair costs.
What You’ll Do- Oversee the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all golf course maintenance equipment, utility vehicles, and mechanical assets.
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues on a variety of turf maintenance equipment.
- Prioritize equipment repairs and maintenance schedules based on operational needs and course requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance schedules, repair history, parts inventory, labor hours, and operating costs.
- Purchase and manage inventory of repair parts, tools, shop supplies, and equipment within budget guidelines.
- Conduct routine inspections and spot checks to evaluate equipment performance and identify maintenance needs proactively.
- Service or supervise the servicing of equipment before operational use to ensure safety and functionality.
- Train and instruct maintenance staff on proper equipment operation, preventative maintenance procedures, and workplace safety practices.
- Collaborate with the Director of Agronomy and Golf Course Superintendent to support departmental goals and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe equipment maintenance facility and work environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, OSHA regulations, and equipment manufacturer guidelines.
- Respond to emergency repair needs and equipment breakdowns to minimize operational disruptions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required; vocational training or technical certifications in mechanical repair preferred.
- 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing golf course maintenance equipment, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, or related machinery.
- Strong working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, welding, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Proficiency in the use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and equipment repair technologies.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues, determine root causes, and implement effective repair solutions.
- Experience managing equipment maintenance schedules, parts inventory, and repair documentation.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to train, coach, and support team members.
- Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems preferred.
- Ability to read budgets, analyze repair costs, and make fiscally responsible decisions regarding equipment maintenance and replacement.
- Ability to work independently while prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, tools, and shop machinery.
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, dust, grease, vibration, chemicals, and outdoor environmental conditions.
