Facilities is a service organization responsible for the planning, renovation, maintenance, and repair of University buildings and facilities; and the provision of utilities, vehicle rental, refuse collection, custodial and other services essential to the mission of the University of North Texas.

This position is responsible for the cleaning and sanitation work of the University, or on special projects. Those who work an overnight shift may earn additional compensation.

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs floors, hallways, and stairways.
• Vacuum carpets and rugs.
• Clears furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, windowsills, woodwork, and other building surfaces.
• Sanitizes rest rooms, baths, commodes, urinals, lavatories, drinking fountains, and other fixtures.
• Picks up and removes trash and other waste from building and cleans waste receptacles.
• Transports recyclable materials to drop‑off point on a scheduled basis.
• Unblocks building doors as required for building functions and programs.
• Moves furniture for cleaning purposes.
• Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

There are no minimum education or experience requirements. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and read labels on chemicals.
• Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to complete tasks (e.g., measuring and mixing chemicals).
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and proper use of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to operate vacuum cleaner, floor waxer, floor buffer, and other cleaning equipment.
• Physical ability to stand, stoop, lift, and move materials and equipment.
• Ability to recognize and report maintenance needs in buildings.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

• Stable employment record.
• Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating cleaning equipment, and lifting trash and equipment.

• Ensures proper care in the use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
• Maintains custodial closet and cart in a neat and clean manner.
• Removes trash daily and disposes of it in the proper locations.
• Communicates with custodial supervisors daily.
• Reports inappropriate actions, injuries, safety issues, and work repairs.
• Follows all departmental cleaning standards provided by supervisory leadership.
• Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision.

• Demonstrates punctuality and follows policies and procedures for absences, time and attendance.

• Communicate with others to exchange information.
