Primary

Purpose:

Perform intermediate-level maintenance of district grounds, exterior areas, athletic fields, playground equipment, and related facilities. Operate assigned grounds and maintenance equipment and complete maintenance and repair tasks to support safe, functional, and well-maintained district facilities. Provide support for general maintenance projects and assist other maintenance staff as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience in maintenance, grounds, landscaping, construction, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of related experience (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and basic maintenance and repair procedures
  • Working knowledge of safe equipment operation and preventive maintenance practices
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate riding and power mowers, power tools, hand tools, and grounds maintenance equipment
  • Ability to operate a tractor, skid-steer loader, and mini excavator (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned work within established timelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with district staff and other maintenance personnel
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and follow established safety procedures

Key Responsibilities:

Grounds and Exterior Maintenance

  • Paint and maintain athletic fields, including grass and synthetic turf surfaces
  • Paint and stencil parking lots using assigned striping and robotic painting equipment
  • Trim and remove trees and perform other assigned grounds maintenance
  • Maintain and repair playground equipment
  • Perform or assist with fencing, concrete, and other exterior maintenance projects
  • Perform mowing, trimming, cleanup, and related grounds maintenance as needed
  • Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, refuse, and other debris from district facilities
  • Replace and maintain exterior trash receptacles as assigned

Maintenance and Repair Support

  • Complete assigned maintenance and repair work in accordance with established procedures and work priorities
  • Assist general maintenance staff with facility maintenance and repair projects as needed
  • Cross-train with Maintenance Technician III staff to develop knowledge and skills in additional maintenance functions
  • Identify maintenance or repair needs beyond assigned scope and report them to the appropriate supervisor

Equipment and Transportation

  • Operate assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures
  • Transport equipment and materials to work sites throughout the district
  • Inspect tools and equipment for safe and efficient operation and perform routine preventive maintenance as assigned
  • Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition

Safety and Work Practices

  • Follow established district and department safety procedures and techniques when performing assigned work
  • Correct unsafe conditions within assigned responsibility and immediately report conditions that cannot be corrected
