Highway Maintenance Lead Specialist - Hanging Lake Tunnel
This vacancy is a lead Highway Maintenance Specialist (TM II) that will be located out of Hanging Lake Tunnel
.
Total annual compensation: $64,872–$70,752 (base pay $58,872–$64,752 and $6,000 housing stipend). Base pay is typically $58,872–$64,752 per year with a $500/month housing stipend. Employees are paid biweekly with 26 pay periods per year.

- Exposure to loud noise

- Work in close proximity to heavy traffic and high voltage (>600 V) with risk of electrical shock
- Use of ladders and scissor lifts up to 10–20 ft
- Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, tractor, bucket truck, forklift, skid steer, loader, aerial devices)
- Drive CDOT vehicles
- Night and weekend shifts; frequent emergency response outside regular hours; overtime possible
- Work in extreme temperatures, variable weather, and elevations up to 12,000 ft
- Use of computers for daily tasks
- Average work week of 40 hr with periodic overtime
- Must read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
- Plan and schedule daily activities; develop work plans for patrol employees; review progress; identify training needs; provide feedback, on‑job training, and mentoring; conduct performance appraisals; give safety talks.
- Ensure patrol attends required training, safety classes, and informational sessions; perform worksite, night, and roadway inventories.
- Lead and assist in maintaining roadway surfaces (hand patching, roto‑milling, machine patching, crack‑sealing, blading shoulders, building or restoring unpaved shoulders, stockpiling).
- Lead and assist in maintaining roadside facilities (drainage cleaning, repair, replacement; streambed and ditch maintenance; slope repair; rock slide cleanup; fence, gate, sound barrier maintenance; litter‑barrel and trash cleanup; rock run, machine sweeping, hand sweeping).
- Lead and assist in traffic services (single post sign replacement, delineator, reference post, guard rail, concrete rail, pavement marking, roadway warning devices, energy attenuator, courtesy assistance).
- Lead and assist in roadside appearance (vegetation control, hand mowing, weeding, tree trimming, tree removal).
- Lead and assist in bridge/structure maintenance (visual inspection, cleaning, deck repair, crack and joint sealing, rigid/flexible bridge deck milling, paint, bearing maintenance, substructure repair, approach slab, slope protection, expansion device maintenance).
- Lead and assist in snow and ice control (snow removal, traction, ice control, stockpiling, snow fence installation and repair).
- Lead and assist in maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and grounds.
- Complete required paperwork and reports; use SAP for work orders, timesheets, and other data entries.
- Trim and remove trees; remove graffiti.
- Operate a variety of light to heavy equipment.
- Ensure proper PPE and equipment usage by patrol.
- Assist other patrols as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no air‑brake restriction.
- Non‑Colorado CDL holders must obtain a Colorado CDL before hire.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening (SSN trace, criminal records, public court records, educational records, driving records).
- May need a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 mo to 1 yr.
