Position

Temporary position (up to 9 months) for a Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator (Lead or General). Pay is $19.00–$20.00 per hour. Employment starts 04/09/2026 and ends 12/05/2026.

Job Summary

Perform boat inspection and decontamination duties in compliance with state regulations and standard protocols at Colorado Parks and Wildlife sites (Grand Lake, Granby Reservoir, and Shadow Mountain Reservoir).

Responsibilities
  • Inspect boats, trailers, and personal watercraft for invasive species such as Zebra/Quagga Mussels and Milfoil and decontaminate as required.
  • Maintain the inspection station, including light maintenance, inventory of supplies, accurate data entry, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Provide public outreach and education on aquatic invasive species and state park regulations.
  • Staff the station, conduct physical inspections, interview boaters, and assist the boating public.
  • Accurately record all inspections using written logs or phone application software.
  • As a Lead Inspector, train and supervise staff, create schedules, cover shifts, and evaluate personnel performance.
  • Work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and perform any additional duties assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good driving record and availability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public.
  • Reliable, timely, self‑motivated, and able to work independently.
