Division of Facilities Management – Southern District This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

The Division of Facilities Management exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses.

Facilities served:
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo Youth Services Center) and the Veterans Community Living Centers in the southern district.

Job Duties
  • Operation and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers (coal, natural gas, and diesel), DCS, PLC’s; qualitative and quantitative analysis of all process fluids entering and leaving the steam plant.
  • Monitor building automation system for alarms that need to be addressed during 2nd and 3rd shifts.
  • Notify night truck mechanics or trade shop supervisors as appropriate for situations that need immediate attention. Answer phones from building tenants during 2nd and 3rd shifts and determine which requests need to be addressed immediately.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness.
  • Ensure proper operation of plant machinery including valves, pumps, fans, turbines, electric motors, coal and ash handling system components, piping distribution system components and digital control system components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair to restore proper operation of plant machinery including piping systems, valves, pumps, fans, turbines, electric motors, coal and ash handling system components and digital control system components.
  • Drive, test, and maintain diesel powered emergency electric generators in accordance with manufacturers specifications and Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain grounds area surrounding building.
  • Drive state vehicles as part of the work assignment.
  • Snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Information

This is a full‑time, in‑person, essential position that is required to respond in person to after‑hours call backs to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner.

Qualifications
  • Minimum four (4) years of work experience in high pressure boiler operations performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Or combination of related education, formal apprenticeship program, and/or experience equal to four (4) years in high pressure boiler operations performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE or equivalent. Applicant must attach license to application.
Conditions of Employment
  • Full pre‑employment criminal background check required. Felony convictions or misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify.
  • State of Colorado residency required at time of application and throughout employment.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE, or equivalent license within 9 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license. Out‑of‑State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid Colorado license within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a medical or religious exemption letter.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay.
  • Must be available for shift work, including various hours outside normal business hours. Shift work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year operation.
  • May be required to travel to training and meetings.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials: proximity to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, fuels, lubricants, etc.
