Hotel Engineering Supervisor – Sonesta Denver (Downtown)

Job Description Summary

The Engineering Supervisor (ES) is the onsite leader of building, equipment and grounds condition of the hotel. This lead maintenance role may supervise 1–2 maintenance workers and is responsible for maintaining the maintenance shop, securing hotel inventory and ensuring guest and associate satisfaction while maintaining expense control and product quality.

Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour. Final date to receive applications:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients.
  • Manage according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all associates.
  • Create processes and procedures to ensure the hotel is properly maintained and clean.
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment needed.
  • Partner with the Director of Engineering to recruit, train, develop, and manage the maintenance staff.
  • Specialized knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, and equipment mechanics.
  • Perform maintenance and repair work on the interior and exterior of buildings, hotel rooms, laundry and kitchen/refrigeration equipment, lighting, heating, air conditioning (HVAC), ventilation, water treatment systems, swimming pool (if applicable), and snow removal.
  • Ensure equipment is prepared and operational for the following day’s work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as outlined in the PM Works program.
  • Inspect building, furniture, bathrooms, guest rooms, and all equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and efficiently; read and record mechanical and other meters to ensure effective energy management, and maintain inspection log and records of scheduled work and repairs.
  • Maintain an exterior PM program for buildings, parking areas, vans, and landscaping.
  • Monitor and secure inventory; follow established ordering procedures to replenish supplies and inventory.
  • Minimize waste.
  • Take responsibility for and inform management of hazardous situations, emergencies or threats to the security of guests, associates or hotel assets.
  • Test, maintain and repair all hotel life‑safety systems.
  • Provide input for the annual department operating budget.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Ensure proper processes are in place to manage and report on the human resources and benefits programs within the maintenance department, including recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management and offboarding.
  • Enforce hotel standards, policies, and procedures within the maintenance department.
  • Manage and report on the proper use, maintenance, and location of all supplies in the maintenance department and on purchasing of supplies.
  • Leverage purchasing power and analyze hotel spending to identify efficiencies.
  • Utilize Alice to implement service recovery guidelines and ensure complete guest satisfaction.
  • Respond courteously and promptly to all guest questions, complaints and/or requests.
  • Promote safety by proper use and wearing of all protective equipment and uniforms.
  • Act as Manager on duty as required.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding health and safety services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Advanced vocational training plus two years of general building maintenance or construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous background in hotel maintenance preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, and equipment mechanics.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
  • Fluent in spoken, read and written English; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.
  • Reading and writing abilities required to document tasks, order supplies, receive instructions, and read equipment manuals including safety information.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages and variances.
