Custodial Technician

Maintain a clean, welcoming environment throughout the Denver Zoo. Daily tasks include vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, and emptying waste bins in offices, public areas, and facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize all assigned surfaces daily, including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floor surfaces, and emptying waste for offices and facilities.
  • Disinfect and clean high‑use areas such as restrooms, kitchens, and various indoor and outdoor surfaces.
  • Clean biohazard waste using proper PPE.
  • Pick up litter and debris throughout the zoo.
  • Participate in snow removal operations and be available for a variable schedule, including early hours, weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays in an on‑call status for snow removal.
  • Operate light equipment for minor and major projects.
  • Adhere to established procedures to provide a safe working environment.
  • Properly clean and maintain equipment.
  • Store and dispose of trash according to procedures and transport it to designated areas.
  • Report maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Secure all doors within the assigned area.
  • Replenish disposable products such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of experience as a custodian/ janitor or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of industry equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to follow oral, illustrated, written, or demonstrated instructions.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions sufficient to establish a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Ability to follow all DZCA safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Position Conditions
  • Pass a physical examination, background check, and pre‑employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Schedule availability: 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, five days a week, including weekend nights.
Compensation

The hourly salary range for this position is $19.30–$20.52.
