Job Description
The Steam and Plant Systems Specialist is a position in the Facilities Management department that requires demonstrated mastery of plant operations and may require current licensure to operate and maintain steam systems in the relevant municipality or state. The specialist serves as a subject matter expert and regularly provides senior level knowledge and solutions to the facility’s plant operations team.
ShiftShift: Nights (5:30 pm–5:30 am Sunday–Tuesday; Sunday–Wednesday). Full‑time, benefits eligible. Shift differentials for role available.
LocationSaint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado
Essential Functions- Demonstrates a deep mastery of steam and chilled water systems and equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling equipment, and other terminal HVAC devices.
- Works independently to ensure safe and proper operation, maintenance, and repair of the hospital’s boiler and/or chiller systems, including water treatment and preparation for inspections.
- Plans, oversees, and ensures quality completion of boiler and chiller teardown and major maintenance, winterizing and starting up chillers and cooling towers, and troubleshooting HVAC digital and pneumatic controls associated with plant operations.
- Leads teams in routine daily operations and project work and inspects and oversees the work of others.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize work, effectively communicate with staff at all levels, and manage workload with minimal supervision.

- Extensive experience and demonstrated mastery of steam system and chiller plant operations.
- Licensure to operate steam systems in the municipality or state where work is to be done; current licensure required by the authority having jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated ability to work with hand and power tools.
- Valid driver’s license may be required.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment by following established safety procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs.
- Frequent customer interaction requiring quick and accurate communication of spoken information, alarms, and issues.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment, frequent computer, phone, and cable setup and use.
- Expected to lift and transport, pull, push, and move equipment, including heavy items up to and including heavy items.
- May be required to drive a vehicle.
- Bending, lifting, stooping, crawling, laying, sitting, walking, climbing.
- Use of hand and power tools with proper hearing and eye protection.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, noisy or constrained spaces, odors, and smells.
Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Hourly rate: $33.87 – $51.53, dependent upon experience.
