Nights Custodian

Overview

The Denver Public Library is hiring Night Custodians to support a welcoming space for customers and staff. This position at the Central Library Branch involves keeping the library clean, safe, and prepared for use. Responsibilities include routine custodial duties, moving furniture, snow removal, and some outdoor landscaping.

• Knowledge of cleaning materials and the operation of custodial equipment.
• Ability to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects up to 25–50 pounds.
• Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to learn to use basic workplace technology, including email and internet.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to perform interior custodial duties (mopping, dusting, vacuuming) and use mechanical floor cleaners to polish, buff, strip, and wax floors.
• Ability to perform exterior custodial/maintenance duties (snow removal, mowing, weeds, watering plants and lawns, raking leaves, picking up litter, clearing dumpster areas) and operate light machinery powered by small engines as necessary.
• Ability to remove waste and soiled linens and dispose of trash and waste that may contain hazardous materials.
• Ability to clean and disinfect fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls and restock supplies as needed.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

One year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.
