Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and operational readiness of parking equipment, parking technology systems, departmental mechanical systems, and state fleet vehicles for Parking & Transportation Services. The Field Equipment Technician ensures that all field and back-office systems function efficiently through preventive maintenance, timely repair, accurate documentation, and coordination with vendors and campus partners.

This position assists in equipment deployment and setup, supports operational logistics, provides technical guidance and supports supervisors with training to staff, and contributes to a positive customer service experience across the Auraria Campus. Field Equipment Technicians work collaboratively with operations staff and other technicians to support departmental objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

Parking Technology, Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • Oversee the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of parking equipment including lot pay stations, single-space meters, parking management software, meter management systems, vehicle tracking systems, network-connected field equipment, and associated back-office systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and connecting issues in collaboration with Auraria Campus IT and system vendors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable operating systems and coordinate firmware, software, and hardware updates
  • Perform component repair and replacement to ensure uninterrupted operation of parking systems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of maintenance activities, system performance, equipment diagnostics, and corrective actions.
  • Conducts or support staff in training on parking equipment operations with supervisor oversight, software systems, and troubleshooting procedures and maintain associated training documentation.
  • Follow established campus safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and departmental operating procedures while performing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure the safe operation and handling of tools, vehicles, equipment, and maintenance materials.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with setup, maintenance, and logistics for new and existing mechanical systems and equipment.
Fleet and Mechanical Systems Oversight:
  • Manage maintenance schedules, vehicle service work orders, repairs, and inspections for departmental state fleet vehicles in coordination with campus Vehicle Maintenance, and State Fleet teams.
  • Document all vehicle maintenance and repairs, including cost estimates, labor, and parts usage.
  • Ensure compliance with state fleet, campus vehicle, maintenance, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and recommend repairs, replacements, or preventive maintenance activities as needed.
Vendor and Contract Coordination:
  • Serve as secondary point of contact under the Assistant Director for vendor services and repairs, including parking technology and equipment vendors.
  • Generate, submit, and track work orders and purchase requests for equipment maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Obtain quotes and estimates for repairs and replacement parts and provide recommendations using repair logs and operational data to support budget alignment.
  • Track software, hardware, and system changes and communicate updates to the Assistant Director and Operation Coordinators.
  • Assist with coordinating vendor access, service schedules, and project implementation activities.
Inventory Management and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate inventories of field signage, equipment parts, maintenance supplies, and operational materials.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance, inventory, and operational reports.
