Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Facility Maintenance
Under the direction of the Sr Facility Manager, this role functions as a member of an Operations & Maintenance team that provides a variety of O&M services within a 24/7/365 environment. The primary focus is to preserve the reliability of the critical load while supporting building systems across the facility.
Responsibilities- Diligently complete assigned tasks in the Operations & Maintenance program of the Data Center and other non-DC spaces.
- Understand and enforce the Owner’s building operations rules and the DC Manager’s specifications.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track all maintenance work, labor hours, preventative maintenance work orders, and reactive work tickets.
- Apply SOPS/MOPS/EOPs/MMRs to guide site operations and maintenance.
- Co‑ordinate with contractors and vendors, ensuring safe site access, proper lock‑out/tag‑out, and safe work area set‑up.
- Receive on‑the‑job training for specialized areas and provide equipment evaluations for contractor scope of work.
- Respond to building system alarms, prioritising the preservation of the critical load, minimising equipment damage, and participating in root‑cause analysis.
- Implement operational modifications such as critical switching, lock‑out/tag‑out, and safe working area set‑up for subcontractors.
- Aim for high standards of workmanship and compliance with company, government and client policies.
- Be available 24/7/365 for emergency corrective maintenance or action activities.
- Comply with all corporate and EHS requirements and programs.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Tier 2, Tier 3 or Tier 4 Data Centers, or relevant operations & maintenance/building engineering roles.
- Entry‑level skills in electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R disciplines, preferably from an associate’s degree or related training.
- Knowledge of writing and operating MOPs (Method of Procedures).
- Self‑starter with high motivation, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a fast‑moving, team‑oriented environment with tight deadlines.
- Experience with subcontractor and vendor contract management.
- Familiarity with Work Order Control procedures and CMMS.
- Understanding of capacity planning and reporting.
- Hands‑on experience with hand tools, test equipment, and maintenance shop practices at a Journeyman level for Electrical and Mechanical equipment.
- Competency with PC applications, especially Microsoft Word® and Excel®; knowledge of Visio, Auto Cad is a plus.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and service‑level standards is advantageous.
- Willingness to adjust hours and work extended hours during emergencies.
12‑hour shifts: 6 am – 6 pm (front half of the week) with on‑call responsibilities for emergencies and critical issues. Shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage. Hours may vary with business needs.
