Housekeeper

We are seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented housekeeper to maintain clean and aseptic conditions in the labor and delivery areas of the hospital. The role involves interacting and collaborating with nurses to ensure a sterile environment for patients.

• Clean rooms throughout the night in the labor and delivery areas.
• Maintain clean and aseptic conditions by vacuuming, scouring, dust mopping, high dusting, making beds, and removing trash/linen.
• Assist with daily clean – spot cleaning rooms while patients are present, including dust mopping, pulling trash, cleaning bathrooms, and high touch areas.
• Perform discharge cleaning when patients leave the room, involving deep cleaning floors, walls, bathrooms, and wiping down furniture.
• Interact with patients during room cleaning and manage difficult interactions with patience.
• Use detergents, germicides, and other supplies following recommended handling/mixing procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized station, cart, closet, and equipment.
• Report equipment repairs to the Supervisor.
• Log activities throughout the work shift as required paperwork at the end of the shift.
• Collect soiled linen and distribute clean linen.
• Utilize equipment including mops, computers, supply carts, detergents, brooms, vacuums, telephone, pager, hand sweeper, etc.

• Strong housekeeping and cleaning skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work in hospital and patient care settings.
• Capability to stand and be on feet all day.
• Ability to push/pull 65 lbs, lift up to 50 lbs, and lift up to 20 lbs constantly.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending English.
• Physical ability to push, pull, kneel, and crouch.

• Experience in environmental services and janitorial duties is beneficial.

Work throughout the hospital in varying conditions, potentially facing hazards such as chemicals, slippery floors, step ladders, dust, odors, bodily fluids, and aerosols. Part‑time weekend shifts are available, including 1st shift (7 am – 3:30 pm), 2nd shift (3 pm – 11:30 pm), and 3rd shift (10:30 pm – 7 am). Contractors are required to work one weekend day per week, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of DES MOINES, IA.

The pay range for this position is $16.00 – $17.00/hr.
