Job Description

TITLE: Stationary Engineer, Class 4

POSITION TYPE: OPERATIONS

LOCATION: Hoover High School

HOURS: 5:30am - 2:00pm

SALARY: $23.04/hr

BASIC FUNCTION:
Operate, maintain and care for boilers and/or geothermal systems, and related mechanical heating, ventilation and water treatment equipment within a facility or facilities within a complex as defined by the District. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the operations department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate high pressure and low-pressure boilers, geothermal systems, and maintain related mechanical equipment.
  • Communicate with operations staff to ensure the facility is properly heated and ventilated.
  • Assist the custodial specialist in maintaining the facility.
  • Assist custodial specialist or building chief in performing preventative maintenance tasks, as needed.
  • Provide effective operating economy.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations regarding boiler operations.
  • Carry out all policies and procedures as set forth for building personnel in operations.
  • Provide training to Stationary Engineer assistant.
  • Assist with snow removal or other exterior duties as assigned.
  • HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

    Required

    Education and Experience:

    • One year of successful custodial experience.
    • Certified Pool Operators license in buildings with a swimming pool or ability to obtain the license within 120 days of job assignment.

    Desired:

    • Practical working knowledge of boiler room/geothermal system operations and related equipment.
    • Leadership and organizational abilities.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of a computer and Microsoft Office tools.
    • Working knowledge of good housekeeping practices and procedures and ability to operate cleaning equipment.
    • Knowledge of boiler room/geothermal system operations and related equipment.
    • Leadership skills.
    • Ability to complete mandatory training sessions.
    • Ability to stay organized.
    • Ability to present a professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Ability to use good judgment and promote a spirit of cooperation with others.
    • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment.

    ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

    • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
    • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

    HOURS:

    260 Days, 8 Hour Shift

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Constant standing, walking, frequent bending/stooping/reaching/pushing/pulling. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and carrying 30 ft. Occasional use of telephone and computer, driving & climbing.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequently working inside and outside and exposure to extremes of temperature/humidity.
