POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician enhances YMCA member experience by completing general work orders and assisting in association branch facilities upkeep, and presentation.

JOB LOCATION

Wellmark YMCA, and Des Moines Metro

HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE

Standard work week, but may work evening or weekend hours to accommodate emergencies and/or events.

PAY RATE

$21.00 - $24.00 per hour - based on experience, skills, and/or education / training

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complete general work orders in branch facilities; to include basic maintenance of pools, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and repair of facility equipment.
  • Assist in facility and grounds presentation and maintenance. Including sidewalks and custodial work.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and develop solutions across the association that will meet the association's requirements and needs.
  • Perform facility walk-throughs and safety checks, and inform the supervisor or branch leadership of maintenance and/or safety issues.
  • Communicate using various formats, including electronic, to keep the supervisor and staff across the association informed.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in a safe, functional and orderly manner.
  • Assists branch staff as needed to maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Relates to the public in a positive manner.
  • Actively participates in department and association staff meetings and trainings.
  • Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to read, write, and execute simple mathematical functions.
  • Perform basic computer skills such using the maintenance work order software, computerized time clock, and online training requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED;
    Associate’s degree highly desirable.
  • Work experience and/or education / training in closely related fields preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between branches on a daily basis.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Successful clearance of background check.
  • Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to hire and maintained afterwards.
  • Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Frequent exposure to dust or fumes is possible and use of cleaning equipment and chemicals is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position is a non-office position, but may need to perform work in various indoor and outdoor environments, such as an office, fitness center, and aquatics spaces. This position works a standard work week, but may be required to work evenings, weekends, along with additional hours to accommodate emergencies and / or events.
