The Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a dependable and service-focused Maintenance Worker 2 to join our Grounds and Building Team at the State Capitol Complex.
In this role, you will help maintain safe, functional, and welcoming buildings and outdoor spaces for employees, visitors, and the public. Your work will include grounds maintenance, custodial services, equipment operation, event support, deliveries, snow removal, and general facility maintenance.
What You’ll Do Maintain the Capitol Complex grounds- Mow, trim, edge, prune, weed, spray, and mulch landscaped areas and flower beds.
- Operate equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers, pruners, tractors, skid loaders, end loaders, and other grounds-maintenance equipment.
- Install and remove landscaping materials, concrete, signs, and posts.
- Help keep sidewalks, entrances, grounds, and other public areas clean, attractive, and safe.
- Clean and maintain offices, restrooms, conference and training rooms, stairwells, elevators, kitchenettes, storage areas, and other shared spaces.
- Dust, clean, and polish furniture, railings, counters, shelving, fixtures, ledges, and other surfaces.
- Clean and sanitize sinks, mirrors, partitions, and restroom and kitchenette fixtures.
- Restock paper and plastic products and properly removeand dispose of waste.
- Make minor repairs to furniture, restroom fixtures, custodial equipment, and other facility items.
- Replace light bulbs and perform safety and security checks, documenting and reporting concerns when needed.
- Operate flatbed trucks, forklifts, tractors, snowplows, sanders, small bulldozers, and other vehicles and equipment.
- Use hand and power tools such as drills, saws, post-hole diggers, measuring and cutting tools, welding equipment, jackhammers, and cement mixers.
- Perform routine servicing and minor repairs to vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain vehicle logs and complete maintenance and damage reports.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and in good operating condition.
- Receive, enter, prioritize, complete, and close work requests submitted inperson, by phone or email, or through the work-order system.
- Respond based on the urgency of each request and work toward completing requests within 24 hours whenever possible.
- Complete assignments throughout the State Capitol Complex and at the State Laboratories Facility as operational needs require.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies, mail, cargo, and other materials between facilities.
- Reserve, deliver, set up, and remove tables, chairs, and other event equipment.
- Help prepare spaces before events and assist with cleanup afterward.
- Respond to snow, ice, severe weather, and other facility emergencies.
- Operate snow-removal equipment and apply sand or ice melt to sidewalks, stairs, entrances, and other areas to maintain safe access.
