Job DescriptionThe Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking an experienced Public Service Supervisor to support the operation and maintenance of the Capitol Complex and Iowa Laboratories Facility.
In this role, you will lead team members responsible for essential facility services, including building and grounds maintenance, custodial operations, mail services, plant operations, and special projects. You will also serve as a member of the Capitol Complex Maintenance Bureau's supervisory team, helping coordinate services that keep state facilities safe, functional, and welcoming.
What You'll Do Lead and Support Staff- Plan, organize, and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned team members.
- Provide employees with clear direction, ongoing support, and performance feedback.
- Help establish priorities and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and a strong commitment to customer service.
- Assist the Facility Administrator with oversight of assigned facility programs and services.
- Areas of responsibility may include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; energy management; custodial services; grounds and nursery operations; mail services; electrical work; plumbing; painting; carpentry; locksmith services; building automation controls; and employee safety.
- Monitor operational needs and help coordinate timely responses to facility issues.
- Support the completion of required paperwork, data analysis, reports, and communications.
- Serve as an active member of the Capitol Complex Maintenance Bureau supervisory team.
- Coordinate with managers and team members to promote communication, information sharing, and consistent service across business units.
- Build effective working relationships with employees, leadership, customer agencies, union representatives, contractors, and vendors.
- Serve as a liaison between facility occupants and Capitol Complex Maintenance, communicating building updates and responding to requests for maintenance, repairs, and operational support.
- Plan, coordinate, and complete small- to medium-sized projects requested by DAS or customer agencies.
- Evaluate project needs, establish priorities, coordinate resources, and monitor progress.
- Communicate project updates and potential concerns to the appropriate partners.
- Ensure customer requests are documented, addressed, and completed in a timely manner.
- Has experience supervising employees and coordinating facility or operational services.
- Can balance changing priorities while maintaining consistent service and follow-through.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with employees, leadership, customers, and external partners.
- Builds collaborative relationships and works effectively across teams.
- Demonstrates sound judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.
- Can organize work, analyze information, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Is committed to workplace safety, quality service, and continuous improvement.
