General Accountant

A well-established manufacturing organization in the northwest suburbs is seeking a General Accountant.

This General Accountant role offers a blend of payroll, general ledger, cost accounting, and expense reporting responsibilities within a stable, structured environment. The position reports directly to experienced leadership and sits on a collaborative accounting team.

• Process weekly multi-state payroll for 150+ salaried and hourly employees

• Review electronic timekeeping data and verify hours worked

• Handle payroll adjustments, garnishments, deductions, bonuses, and special payouts

• Maintain payroll accruals and related journal entries

• Investigate tax inquiries and payroll discrepancies

• Maintain payroll documentation and reporting

• Post daily bank transactions into SAP

• Maintain cash management schedules

• Perform account reconciliations

• Post payroll entries to the general ledger

• Provide backup support for AP

• Audit and approve expense reports

• Maintain expense reporting system

• Post credit card transactions to the GL

• Ensure compliance and accuracy of submissions

• Perform daily product cost roll-ups

• Maintain and analyze KPI calculations

• Support Plant Controller with cost analysis and reporting

• BS in Accounting or Finance

• 2+ years of experience

• 2+ years payroll processing experience preferred (multi-state a plus)

• Strong knowledge of wage & hour laws and payroll tax regulations

• Experience with general ledger postings and reconciliations

• Exposure to cost accounting (manufacturing a plus)

• SAP experience a plus

• ADP Workforce Now preferred
