About the Opportunity

A leading national construction services organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its corporate accounting team in Rosemont, IL. This position plays a critical role in supporting financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring GAAP compliance, and assisting with corporate accounting operations.

The ideal candidate will hold an active CPA designation and possess a strong foundation in financial accounting and reporting. Experience with in the construction industry is highly preferred, particularly in organizations managing multiple projects, entities, or business units.

Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules, including depreciation calculations and asset disposals
  • Analyze account balances and investigate variances to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting requirements
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies and internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and corporate reporting requirements
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests
  • Coordinate insurance-related accounting activities and assist with claim reporting and reconciliation
Financial Analysis & Business Support
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting support to leadership as needed
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and other financial planning initiatives
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve financial visibility and operational performance
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Support accounting system maintenance and data integrity initiatives
  • Participate in special projects and corporate accounting initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation
  • Assist with implementation of best practices across the accounting function
Qualifications
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry accounting
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience working directly with external auditors
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with multi-entity or project-based accounting environments
  • Familiarity with construction accounting principles, job costing, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting is a plus
