Property Accountant

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries
  • Reconcile bank accounts, including escrows and reserve accounts
  • Maintain detailed supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts such as prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, mortgages, interest payable, real estate taxes, and tenant-related receivables/payables
  • Reconcile and track capital activity
  • Prepare journal entries for complex transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and financing activities
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger and record depreciation entries
  • Analyze lease commissions, tenant allowances, and capital expenditures for proper accounting treatment
  • Partner with Property Management to prepare monthly variance analyses of operating revenues and expenses
  • Work with senior accounting staff to support consolidated financial reporting for the multifamily portfolio
  • Process owner distributions and lender draw requests
  • Assist with tax return preparation and provide supporting documentation
  • Support external audit requests and year-end tax filings
  • Assist in the preparation and review of annual property budgets
  • Participate in special projects and prepare ad hoc financial reports as needed
  • Assist with tenant reconciliations and estimates in accordance with lease agreements
Qualifications
  • 2+ year of accounting experience
  • Prior experience in real estate accounting strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required
