Accountant, Financial Reporting, Accounts Receivable​/ Collections

Description

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join a team in a contract position with the potential to become permanent in the Education industry. This opportunity is best suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who is confident managing daily financial operations, supporting payroll, and maintaining accurate records in Quick Books. The role follows an onsite-first schedule with regular in-office collaboration and offers the chance to contribute across core accounting functions during an initial two-month engagement.

Responsibilities:

- Manage day-to-day accounting activity, including recording transactions and maintaining accurate financial documentation.

- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable while ensuring timely and accurate handling of invoices, payments, and collections.

- Prepare and post journal entries to support complete and accurate general ledger activity.

- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to keep financial records aligned and current.

- Administer payroll processing in Quick Books, ensuring employee payments and related records are handled correctly.

- Support month-end close by reviewing balances, organizing supporting documentation, and assisting with financial reporting.

- Maintain the integrity of accounting data within Quick Books and help ensure financial information is audit-ready.

- Partner with leadership during key financial discussions and provide accounting support for periodic meetings as needed.

Requirements - Proven experience in an accounting role with responsibility across multiple core functions.

- Strong working knowledge of Quick Books is required.

- Hands-on payroll experience is required.

- Background in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting.

- Experience preparing journal entries and completing bank reconciliations.

- Ability to assist with month-end close activities and maintain accurate financial records.

- Comfortable working primarily onsite in Des Plaines, Illinois with limited hybrid flexibility.
