Construction Project Manager - Federal Projects

Chicago Area | Full-Time | Relocation Assistance Available

A growing federal and public-sector general contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee federal construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role supports a strong pipeline of government work, including federal, state, and local projects, with an emphasis on planning, coordination, and execution.

Relocation assistance is available for qualified out-of-state candidates, making this an excellent opportunity for Project Managers looking to transition into the Chicago market or expand their federal project experience.

What You Will Do
  • Manage federal and public-sector construction projects from award through closeout
  • Oversee all technical disciplines including civil, architectural, MEP, and finish scopes
  • Ensure compliance with federal contracts, specifications, safety standards, and codes
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules in coordination with field teams
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, bid reviews, and contract execution
  • Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications
  • Coordinate inspections, permitting, and commissioning activities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with owners, inspectors, and consultants
  • Track budgets, manage cost controls, and forecast project outcomes
  • Support preconstruction planning and proposal efforts as needed
What We Are Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in commercial, public, or federal construction
  • Experience managing government-funded projects (federal preferred)
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods and contract administration
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and subcontractors
  • Familiarity with regulated jobsite environments and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with Procore and standard scheduling tools
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • OSHA 30 required; PMP or similar certification is a plus
