Job Description

Oakton College is recruiting adjunct instructors to serve as part‑time faculty. Positions are ongoing pooled roles; materials are retained and reviewed as needed.

Compensation is based on lecture hour equivalents (LHE). For most courses, the LHE equals a credit hour; for courses with additional tasks (e.g., grading, lab instruction), the LHE represents a higher value. For the 2025‑26 academic year, rates are $1,221 per LHE for faculty without doctorates and $1,294 per LHE for faculty with doctorates.

Advancement to the next salary step requires successful completion of two fall or spring semesters in which 3 + LHEs are taught in each semester.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and construct a course syllabus consistent with the generic course syllabus, including objectives, content, and grading criteria.
  • Prepare instructional materials for lecture, laboratory, and clinical functions as appropriate.
  • Deliver instruction and meet scheduled courses and laboratories.
  • Consult and evaluate students.
  • Maintain clear records of student performance and related factors such as attendance.
  • Comply with departmental and institutional policies and procedures, including submission of grades and office hours, and adherence to the AFA contract.
  • Follow institutional procedures.
Qualifications

Education
:
Master's degree in English or related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in one or more of:
Post‑Secondary Literacy Instruction, Rhetoric and Composition, Developmental Education, English, or a related field.

Experience
:
Working with underprepared and/or underrepresented students; college teaching experience (preferred); experience teaching online (preferred).

Skills
:

All positions are on a semester‑by‑semester basis and assignments are contingent on sufficient enrollment. Faculty are expected to complete any course in which they are assigned.
