Camp Counselors
BASIC FUNCTIONMust be able to effectively communicate with and lead assistant director, counselors, campers and parents. Working schedule is approximate and is schedule to change; M-F 6:30a-2:30pm and/or 10:15am-6:15pm. This position is required to work an 11 week period at a Des Plaines Park District facility, shift may change at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor. The on-site supervisor and coordinator of day camp program operations, camp staff and participants at a Des Plaines Park District Camp.
Must be able to provide physical supervision of campers, interact with campers, deal with improper behaviors and effectively manage emergency situations. Scheduled hours include preparation and planning, set up and cleanup of the program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Reports to the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Assistant, keeping open lines of communication
2. Attend all preseason training sessions and staff meetings.
3. Responsible for the safety, education, and recreational programming for participants alongside Co-Director.
4. Adhere to Des Plaines Park District policies, procedures and safety standards.
5. Creating and implementing program activities daily, calendars and schedules.
6. Responsible for camper medication forms and proper distribution.
7. Supervise campers closely at all times including daily sign in and out procedures.
8. Responsible for working alongside Co-Director and managing counselor staff.
9. Submit timely written reports including: accident and incident reports, supply requests, discipline reports, day off request forms, attendance rosters, and any other necessary reports.
10. Maintain first aid kits and AED.
11. Supervise camper swim time lessons as assigned.
12. Coordinate both annual and daily setup and cleanup of sites.
13. Prepare daily attendance and collect each day from the counselors.
14. Answer parent questions and concerns, providing excellent customer service.
15. Follow up with the Recreation Supervisor to make sure all participants are registered.
16. Organize and maintain camper participant forms.
17. Attendance at camp functions – field trips, swimming, special events, and park district staff meetings.
18. Responsible for promoting camp programs and developing positive public relations.
19. Work cooperatively as a team member with all other staff members.
20. Take proper care of all camp equipment and supplies.
21. Assist with the end of day cleanup.
22. Monitor camp program expenditures and budget and be willing to be reimbursed if items are spent out of pocket for camp expenses.
23. Enforce camp rules for all staff and participants.
24. Assign program areas and pool duties for counselors.
25. Assign counselor groups and field trip expectations for staff.
26. Any other related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIESAdminister First Aid, when required.
Ability to use technology and relevant applications such as ePACT and Canva.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual and Crisis Manual.
Direct participants in the event of an emergency, such as fire, severe weather.
Communicate with Recreation Supervisor regarding any equipment needing repair or replacement.
Attend related training as requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
College degree desired (recreation or education preferred).
Experience:
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Previous experience working with children between the ages of 4-12 years old.
Administrative leadership experience.
Skill and experience in group dynamics, communication, administration, youth…
