Position: Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Des Plaines, Illinois
Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students in a vibrant educational environment near Des Plaines, IL. As an integral support for both Extended School Year (ESY) and Regular School Year (NSY) programs, you'll help foster communication access and inclusion for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This assignment offers a dynamic mix of in-class interpreting and Hearing Itinerant services, making each day uniquely impactful.

Qualifications:
  • Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience providing interpreter services in school settings preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, students, and support staff
  • Flexibility to adapt to the structured school schedule
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver interpreter services:
    • Regular School Year: 330 minutes daily (full school day)
    • ESY (June 15, 2026 - July 24, 2026, Monday-Friday): 1100 minutes weekly
  • Provide direct Hearing Itinerant services:
    • Regular School Year: 100 minutes per week
    • ESY: 100 minutes per week
  • Offer consultative Hearing Itinerant services:
    • Regular School Year: 180 minutes per month
    • ESY: 75 minutes per month
  • Work closely with students and educational teams to ensure communication needs are met
  • Support individualized learning plans and classroom engagement
