Part‑time faculty at Oakton College are compensated on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE equals one credit hour. For courses that include additional tasks such as grading or laboratory instruction, the LHE may be higher. For the 2026‑27 academic year, the rates are $1,251 per LHE for faculty without a doctorate and $1,326 per LHE for faculty with a doctorate.

Faculty advance one step in the salary schedule after successfully completing two semesters in which they teach three or more LHEs each semester. Faculty are hired on a semester‑by‑semester basis and assignment is based on seniority, qualifications, and classroom performance.

• Construct a course syllabus consistent with the generic syllabus, including objectives, content, and grading criteria.
• Prepare course presentations and instructional materials using active‑learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies; deliver instruction in person or online.
• Meet with students, laboratories, and course participants at scheduled times.
• Instruct, advise, consult with, and evaluate enrolled students.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and grading.
• Participate in department meetings and comply with department decisions on instructional matters.
• Participate in department and institutional assessments of student learning and in related surveys.
• Comply with institutional procedures.
• Attend and participate in divisional, committee, task‑force, and other institutional organization meetings as assigned.
• Schedule office hours; hold at least one office hour weekly for every three credit hours taught.
• Engage in professional development to maintain and improve teaching and learning quality.

Radiography faculty (PTXRY‑25)

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Proficiency in course development, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
• At least two years (4,000 hours) of clinical experience in the discipline and current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration, or equivalent in radiography.

Preferred:

• College teaching experience.
• Online teaching experience.
