Job Description
Part‑time faculty are paid on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE is the same as a credit hour. For other courses, the LHE represents additional work such as grading or laboratory instruction. All part‑time faculty begin at the starting pay rates. For the 2026‑27 academic year the rates are $1,251/LHE for faculty without doctorates and $1,326/LHE for faculty with doctorates.
Part‑time faculty advance one step within the salary schedule after successfully completing two fall and spring semesters where they teach three or more LHEs in each semester. Faculty are hired on a semester‑by‑semester basis and assignments are conditioned on sufficient enrollment. Faculty are expected to complete each course once it has started.
Essential Functions- Construct a course syllabus consistent with the generic course syllabus stipulating course objectives, content, and grading criteria.
- Prepare course presentations and instructional materials for lecture, laboratory, and clinical functions (as appropriate).
- Deliver instruction, including being prepared for and meeting courses and laboratories at scheduled times.
- Consult and evaluate students.
- Maintain clear records on student performance and other factors such as attendance involved with grading.
- Comply with departmental and institutional policies, including submission of midterm and final grades, office hours, and instructional decisions such as texts, assignments, and grading standards; also adhere to provisions of the AFA contract.
- Adhere to institutional procedures.
- Teaching experience at an educational institution.
- Doctoral degree in biology or a biological science, or biology education with at least 18 graduate hours in biology, cell/molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, or biochemistry.
- Master’s degree in biology with 18 or more graduate credit hours in microbiology, genetics, cell/molecular biology, or biochemistry courses.

Evening and/or weekend sessions; both Des Plaines and Skokie locations; online instruction.
