Research Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking a Research Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Des Plaines, Illinois. Overview

This role involves supporting research and development initiatives focused on vacuum systems and gas management technologies. The candidate will be responsible for designing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and leading technical projects to enhance system performance.

• Conduct research and development activities related to vacuum systems and gas management technologies
• Apply engineering principles, theories, and models to design and execute experiments
• Analyze data, interpret results, and develop actionable insights
  
  Prepare and present detailed reports of findings to internal teams and external stakeholders
• Lead and guide technical projects, including mentoring junior team members
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to drive innovation and improve system performance
• Utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish complex goals

• 3–5 years of experience in vacuum systems, gas management, or a related field
• Strong understanding of industry concepts, practices, and procedures
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex tasks and projects simultaneously
• Experience in research, experimentation, and technical reporting
• Leadership experience or ability to direct the work of others
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred
