Job Description
In this role, you will be a key member of the Honeywell UOP R&D HSE Team supporting locations in Des Plaines, IL (R&D) and Riverside/McCook, IL (R&D & Manufacturing). As a Sr. HSE Engineer, you will impact our organization by implementing and maintaining the requirements of the HSE Management System to ensure compliance with regulations and industry best practices. Your ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and influence stakeholders will ensure that HSE considerations are integrated into business processes and decision‑making, contributing to the overall success and reputation of our business as a responsible and sustainable organization.
Responsibilities- Oversight of the HSE Management System to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Provide expert advice and assistance to management and employees on work health and safety strategies, programs, systems, policies, standards, and processes
- Conduct site‑level risk assessments and collaborate with location teams to execute necessary actions and improvements
- Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies that align with the organization's mission, ensuring a culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility
- Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, permits, and certifications.
- Establish and enforce HSE quality control standards by conducting regular inspections, performance assessments, corrective action reviews, and self‑assessments
- Develop and maintain training HSE training content, enrollments database, and assignments for new and existing employees and contractors.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external HSE audits
- Update, track, and drive performance of key HSE metrics
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Management of Change program.
- Process new chemical inventory requests, maintain SDS database, and ensure chemical inventories remain current
- 5+ years of experience in all matters related to HSE within manufacturing, research and development, and/or field related businesses
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field or qualifications in Health, Safety, Environmental, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene or other appropriate qualification related to HSE.
- In‑depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
- Proficiency in HSE Management Systems
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and strategic planning abilities
- Strong people skills, time management and personnel training programs
- Experience undertaking audits and inspections
- Proficient in general computer software use – Word, Excel, Power Point
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification
- Passion for promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align HSE engineering with organizational goals
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to inspire and motivate a team
- Experience with ISO Certifications
