Position Purpose and
Summary:
The Assistant General Manager ("AGM") assists the General Manager ("GM") or Multi-Unit General Manager ("MUGM") in managing hotel day‑to‑day operations, ensuring optimal performance and continual improvement in guest and associate satisfaction. The AGM is hands‑on in managing hourly staff, scheduling, directing, and providing training. The AGM leads staff to promote an exceptional workplace and ensures safety and security procedures comply with company guidelines and standards for all associates and guests.
Job Duties
- Demonstrate and promote a 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for guests.
- Become trained in all managerial functions and operations at the hotel level.
- Ensure all associates are onboarded, trained, and complete required ESU training timely.
- Promote compliance with company policies and procedures, including the prompt reporting of safety and security issues.
- Uphold and enforce compliance with policies, rules, and standards at the property level.
- Ensure associates drive company initiatives to increase revenue, reduce costs, and improve guest and associate satisfaction.
- Serve as the first level of management contact for guest service issues, resolving them in a timely manner and escalating to GM/MUGM as needed.
- Demonstrate professionalism, embrace ESA's service culture, and treat all guests and associates with utmost respect and kindness.
- Interact daily with guests to identify lead opportunities and assist with future travel needs.
- Assist in maximizing revenues and flow to GOP to meet or exceed budgeted EBITDA.
- Assist the GM/MUGM with interviewing, onboarding, and training new associates.
- Direct supervision of associates to promote a positive work environment through teamwork, energy, enthusiasm, and recognition.
- Participate in daily team meetings and staff interactions to foster continuous improvement, guidance, encouragement, and corrective action when necessary.
- Assist the GM with budgetary control measures, including labor monitoring, scheduling, room expense control, and maintaining PAR levels through Daily Visual Management.
- Ensure associates have the necessary tools to execute their jobs on an ongoing basis.
- Serve as the manager on duty in the absence of the GM/MUGM.
- Inspect guest rooms and complete Guest Ready visual inspections, assigning daily arrival reservations.
- Provide relief or back‑up duties as needed, including front desk coverage, housekeeping, and other essential functions to ensure optimal hotel operation.
- Manage purchase order processes, ordering, and receiving products in a timely manner.
- Assist GM/MUGM in monitoring cash management, in‑house guest balances, and direct bill receivables compliance.
- Assist with hotel sales activities when needed, including Soar leads.
- Review and monitor social media sites to ensure timely and appropriate responses.
- Prioritize clean rooms and guest and associate satisfaction.
- Prior hotel experience in a hospitality or retail establishment is required.
- High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership ability is desired.
