Safety Manager - Federal/Government

$90,000 - $130,000 per year | Des Plaines, IL | On-Site | Permanent

General contractor focusing on Government and Federal work throughout the Midwest and beyond. Safety Manager must have Federal/Government experience. Great benefits, bonus, car allowance, cell phone allowance, and PTO.

Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Manager for our federal/government construction projects. The individual will be responsible for implementing and managing the Safety and Health Program on-site. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety of our team, the public, and the environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SSHO, Safety Management, and OSHA
30. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage the site safety and health programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and industry standards.
  • Identify potential hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees to promote awareness and understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify their causes and take preventive measures against recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure safety measures are integrated into project planning and execution.
  • Manage the safety equipment inventory, ensure that all equipment is in good working condition, and employees are trained to use them properly.
  • Stay current with changes in safety regulations and industry practices, and ensure the company's safety policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Represent the company in meetings and discussions with regulatory agencies and other external parties regarding safety matters.
  • Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Manager, SSHO, or similar role in the construction industry within federal/government projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards for the construction industry.
  • Excellent ability to identify potential hazards and implement effective safety measures.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence others on safety matters.
  • Proficient in using safety management software and other computer applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Must be willing to travel to different project sites as required.
