Unpaid Internship
We are seeking a motivated intern to support our outreach and education for LSSI's behavioral health programs. Working in tandem with the BHS Outreach & Education Manager, this position will be in the community increasing the awareness of the LSSI brand and (BHS) behavioral health services, increasing access to treatment and decreasing negative social stigma of mental illness and substance use through the engagement of the community.
This internship offers hands-on experience working with community partners, participating in community events, and engaging with community members on the North/Northwest sides of Chicago.
Internship Details:
- Fall/Spring and Summer placements, 12-20 hours/week.
- Availability on Saturdays a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- At a grassroots level, engage the community in learning more about LSSI and behavioral health, including outreaching schools, churches, food pantries, etc.
- Work with Communications, Behavioral Health staff, and Program Leadership in developing marketing materials, curriculum, and content.
- Provide marketing support to programs to effectively build census and promote program services.
- Consistently execute Community Outreach Plans.
- Attend networking/community events to promote LSSI.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
Learning Opportunities:
- Gain experience in community outreach and education.
- Develop skills in public speaking, community engagement, and advocacy.
- Network, meet new people in the field, and learn what other organizations are doing in the community.
- Experience real-world application of increasing awareness and decreasing stigma.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in human services or marketing fields required.
- Bilingual in Spanish, a plus.
- Interest in working in community outreach, and/or behavioral health.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Can be organized and is a good planner.
- Excellent organization, presentation and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
- Background check clearance required.
- Valid driver's license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
- Use of a car is required due to traveling between office and events.
- Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.
