Under general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent, this position leads and supervises a maintenance team responsible for the maintenance and repair of city buildings and infrastructure. This is accomplished by establishing and assessing work priorities and adjusting schedules as needed to meet maintenance objectives. This position also monitors the safety practices of assigned staff and conducts evaluations and training when necessary.
- Directs, monitors, and supervises assigned staff to ensure services are being performed as specified, conducts field visits and spot checks of work completed;
- Schedules and conducts training and safety meetings for assigned personnel;
- Tracks, schedules, and assists in conducting preventative maintenance on City building equipment;
- Ensures equipment and materials are maintained and repaired when needed;
- Oversees building repair and maintenance tasks, including carpentry work, painting, plumbing, electrical systems, and minor structural construction;
- Determines and recommends equipment, materials, safety needs, devices, and/or equipment for assigned operation, maintenance, and improvement projects;
- Reads and interprets maps, diagrams, schematics, contracts, and work orders;
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems and implements efficient and effective solutions;
- Oversees contractors performing work on City facilities;
- Provides timely and responsive actions to internal/external customer concerns, complaints, and claims related to City buildings/facilities;
- Monitors safety practices of assigned staff and conducts evaluation and training when necessary;
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Associate’s Degree;
- Three (3) years of related work experience;
- HVAC or Master Electrician License;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Class B Driver’s License with good driving record.
- Position may require work both at night and on weekends for special events or activities.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in facility maintenance operations;
- Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry;
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends; and
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
